Positive Psychology

What is the health in our existence? How hard is it to be happy? Is happiness the way that you think? The way that you talk? The way you believe? Positive psychology tends to rule that optimism may be a missing element in some people’s lives. Positive psychology allows positivity and optimism to be the basis of counseling.

What is Positive Psychology?

Positive psychology allows you to become increasingly aware that throughout your life, you carry answers and outlooks in your experience. Positive psychology focuses to help you actualize and concentrate on your positive expectations.

Positive psychology can be implemented in different ways through therapy.

Some approaches that you take part in when you are taking part in a positive psychology-based therapy are that of:

  • Focusing on what is going right and where your strengths are.
  • Accepting positive feedback from your treatment provider or counselor.
  • Becoming empowered in areas of your life.
  • Becoming mindful about your life and circumstances.
  • Building emotional intelligence.
  • Focusing on happiness.
  • Breaking cycles of pessimism or falling into the “ruts of the past.”

There are some major beliefs that you may focus on in a positive psychology-based intervention.

When you are using positive psychology approaches you may want to learn or change habits surrounding:

  • Being problem-focused. Are you currently focused on problems and not solutions?
  • Being hopeless. Do you often refuse to have hope for yourself?
  • Feeling stuck in a cul-de-sac. Do you give up after the first try at things?
  • Refusing to give up on the past. Would it help you if you began trying new approaches to old problems?
  • Focusing on what is going wrong. Can you name the things in your life that are going right for you in this moment?

The concepts, ideas, and models that you are presented within a positive psychology approach in counseling may be named as solution-focused brief therapy.

At Thoughtwise this type of approach is important because it allows you to meet a new part of yourself, the part of yourself that is independent of your life events, the part of yourself that is motivated and focused on the opportunities that you have.

At Thoughtwise you may participate in some of the positive psychology-practices in your treatment such as:

  • Explaining what your life would be like if it was perfect.
  • Wring a journal each day of what brings you gratitude.
  • Allowing yourself to focus on the feeling, thoughts, and emotions that make up the essence of your happiness.
  • Talking for one session only about the positive things that you have in your life.
  • Allowing yourself to be mindful of the power of your optimism outside of therapy.

There is no doubt that optimism, happiness, and positivity can be foundations that change your life for the better. At Thoughtwise we embrace this, we look forward to being the positive intervention in you or your loved one’s life that you need.
