Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Assessments for Adults

Are you an adult that is struggling with being hyperactive, impulsive, or are you struggling to take control on your attention, memory, or executive functioning? Have you been referred to us to be assessed for adult attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder or ADHD?

Attention disorders are mostly identified under three major domains: inattentive, impulsive/hyperactive, and combined (inattentive and impulsive/hyperactivity type) ADHD.

It has been recognized that about 1 in 45 adults have a form of ADHD.

What is the difference between childhood and adult ADHD?

Often ADHD in adults is similar to the presentations of ADHD in children. The symptoms of ADHD, especially if not treated in childhood may persist into later years.

Often in adults, the impulsivity that is often found to be extreme in children has faded by adulthood. This may be due to the person learning coping skills, executive functioning, and other types of behavioral control in which help mitigate impulsive thoughts and behaviors.

What does adult ADHD mean for me?

The adult with ADHD may have difficulties in incorporating or sustaining appropriate activity levels or attention. You may have learned throughout your life to apply these difficulties as characteristics. Some adults may feel spurts of feeling “in the zone” due to hyperactivity, some people refer to this as “hyperfocus” / “hyper-focus.”

Dealing with ADHD as an adult, may still mean seeking adequate treatment and may still require that the person seek training, counseling, and/or therapy to help them redeem their lives from the symptoms associated with ADHD.
