What is neurodevelopmental motor disorder?

Neurodevelopmental disorders are defined when a young person is impaired in development in some area, and where this impairment causes a delay or diverges from normal functioning.

Neurodevelopmental motor disorders are defined as disorders and/or neurological difficulties with certain areas of developmental and motor functioning including:

  • Overflow of movements.
  • The urges or (bodily) sensations in which trigger extreme or abnormal muscle movements or vocalizations.
  • Abnormal movements or tics.
  • Involuntary or impulsive movements or language.
  • Execution of fine or gross motor skills.
  • Visual impairment.
  • Motor or muscle movement delays.
  • Voluntary or involuntary uttering of obscene language.

These issues usually interrupt many areas or specific areas of a person’s life and normal functioning.

Why am I being referred for testing?

It is important that you are assessed by qualified professionals. With early intervention the lasting effects of these types of motor disorders can be minimized.

Treatments may be recommended, these recommendations come after proper screening and evaluations have been concluded.
