Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT)

When was the last time you let a breath go while thinking about all that it means to you? When was the last time you took a breath in, closed your eyes, and grasped on to nothing but the nature of that last breath?

With everything that is going on in your life today, it is important to have these moments. Don’t think so? Did you know that on the basis of mindfulness, such as moments like these, have actually been found to lessen anxiety, depression, and pain? These moments of reflection and stillness are sometimes components of good health.

What is Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy? (MBCT)

Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy is a cognitive and/or behavioral therapy that you can partake in. This type of therapy is presented in the talk therapy counseling relationship, or in a group. MBCT may be available through telehealth, or at-distance.

MBCT invites you to take a grasp on your life by implementing awareness and allowing yourself to change negative thoughts and automatic thought patterns easily.

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy teaches the importance of practicing:

  • Self-awareness of the health and mental health of yourself and others.
  • The meaning of self-acceptance.
  • The exaction of thought.
  • Conscious purpose.
  • Allowing yourself the time to gather experience.

How does Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy work?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is important because it offers you a talk therapy approach to learning about your brain, body, behaviors, and yourself, and empowering you from within.

MBCT is important because it invites you to learn and begin the practices of increasing awareness and frequently reflecting on your brain, body, thoughts, life, and others.

MBCT sometimes focuses on “rewiring your brain” or “rewiring your thoughts,” to produce better associations, better processes, and a more therapeutic way of being. At Thoughtwise, MBCT is a therapy that offers you or your loved one, the opportunity to adopt the therapeutic setting inside yourself, to establish a better life.

Sometimes MBCT includes meditation, learning how to meditate, and/or building skillsets for you or your loved one to be able to relax.  It helps you take account of your thoughts to promote for yourself and your own peace of mind.

Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy at Thoughtwise in Tallahassee can help you focus on critical areas of being such as:

  • Understanding the basis of your thinking or behaviors.
  • Anchoring yourself.
  • Learning breathing exercises.
  • Learning coping skills.
  • Experiencing the moment without judgment.
  • Building better awareness.
  • Learning the importance of activity, health, and understanding.

MBCT is different from many approaches in therapy, as it focuses on your inherent nature, your peacefulness, and it implements training at times.

This type of therapy may be extremely important for those who are avoiding medications for depression or anxiety (such as pregnant women), or who are working to build resilience into their lives.

MBCT may act as an alternative to pharmacological or drug-based interventions for some mental health issues. If you or your loved one are interested in this type of treatment, please contact us at our central location here in Tallahassee.
